COVID TREATMENT NOW AVAILABLE THROUGH OUR OFFICE
We are now making COVID treatments available through our office. PAXLOVID, which is a pill, is a combination of 2 different antiviral medications shown effective in treating COVID in the early stages. It has approval for use in those patients who are proven to be COVID positive and have a high risk of progression to severe disease.
High risk factors are heart disease, chronic lung disease including moderate or severe asthma, significant immunodeficiency, chemotherapy, diabetes, active cancer, long term high dose prednisone therapy, over age 65, dementia, chronic liver disease, overweight BMI>30, and chronic kidney disease.
The most common side effects are alteration in taste, diarrhea, high blood pressure and muscle aches.
In order for our doctors to prescribe this treatment or other COVID therapy, patients need to schedule a formal appointment (televisit preferred). We will discuss general health issues and review your list of medications to make sure there are no drug interactions.
ALLERGY SHOT HOTLINE – (203) 978-0166
The allergy shot hotline is the easiest way to schedule regular allergy shots. Please see the appointments page for current shot hours. The allergy shot hotline can be called 24 hours a day, every day, and just leave the time and day you want to come in for your allergy shots.
CORONAVIRUS VACCINE UPDATE
COVID vaccine including boosters are in good supply and it is easy to schedule an appointment at the Stamford Health vaccine center on Long Ridge Rd (203-276-7300).
If you are concerned about having an allergic reaction to the vaccine, please schedule a telehealth or office visit with us. We are skin testing for allergy to polyethylene glycol (PEG) in our office as this is the major ingredient in the COVID vaccine which is causing the allergic reactions. While testing for PEG is not 100% sensitive, it can help in your decision making as to which vaccine you should get. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines contain PEG. The J&J does not.
Our offices are fully open for all allergy and asthma services. We are also offering telehealth services. You can perform the visit on your laptop computer if equipped with a camera. Please remember that telehealth visits are more limited than office visits as certain aspects of the physical examination cannot be performed. Telehealth visits can be performed for all the usual problems such as sinusitis, bronchitis, asthma, allergies, etc.
We are the largest provider of allergy and asthma care in the greater Stamford area. We provide services to the surrounding towns of Greenwich, Darien, New Canaan, Wilton, Westport, Norwalk, and all of Fairfield County as well as the rest of Connecticut and Westchester County, New York. In practice since 1991, our allergists take pride in accurate diagnostic testing and expert treatment. Patient satisfaction and comfort are important to us. Our professional and caring nurses and office staff ensure that you will not be kept waiting for your appointment. Our physicians have consistently been listed as BEST DOCTORS in Connecticut and the New York metropolitan region.
In addition to being Board Certified in Allergy & Immunology, our physicians are also Board Certified in their respective fields of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. This means that our physicians have had the same training as Primary Care doctors such as Internists and Pediatricians prior to specializing in Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. Using this knowledge we can put allergic conditions into the larger perspective of a patient’s general health. We are able to care for patients from early childhood to the elderly with a range of uncomplicated to the complex medical issues faced today such as heart disease, diabetes, pulmonary disease, and other illnesses.
